
Large Businesses, Organisations and Corporates (+75 employees)
Your organisation will need to produce a suitable and sufficient, up
to date fire risk assessment, together with significant findings and
evidence that remedial actions have been implemented.
You will also need to provide evidence of 4 of the following 5 categories:
- Staff fire training (including specialist role related training)
- Up-to-date fire maintenance records
- Business continuity plans
- Demonstrating robust security measures
- Demonstrating that their suppliers and distributors have suitable
fire safety arrangements in place
And at least one from the list below:
- Demonstrating that the organisation promotes home fire safety to
its staff
- Allowing staff to be part-time fire fighters available to their
local fire service whilst at work
- Working in partnership with a local fire station or fire service
to assist them in helping vulnerable persons/groups or supporting/participating
in community fire safety initiatives
- Similar activity/activities that are of equal merit that promote
fire safety in the workplace, home or community
If your organisation is able to demonstrate the above, its evidence
will be verified and then you will be presented with a Fire Safe Business
Award.
Your evidence (Large businesses and corporates)
(1) Fire risk assessments
Fire risk assessments accepted:
- Firesmart on-line FRA ( copy)
- Firesafeexpress on-line FRA ( copy)
- FRA provided by an IFE approved consultant ( copy)
- An FRA that follows Dept of Communities and Local Government guidance
documents methodology ( copy)
- An FRA that has been audited / checked by a fire service officer
and that has been deemed suitable and sufficient. (Evidence of audit
)
- An FRA that conforms with the requirements of the Fire Safety Order
2005 (copy)
In addition evidence that significant findings have been acted on and
remedial actions have been implemented.
(2) Primary fire safety / business continuity evidence
Provision of evidence (copies) in 4 of the following 5 categories:
- Staff fire training (including specialist role related training)
- To include evidence of:
- Fire drills
- General staff fire training
- Fire marshals
- Managers
- Specialist roles such as receptionists, security staff,
caretakers, fire team members etc
- Evidence will include numbers of persons undergoing training,
dates of training, who carried out the training, content of the
training
- Up-to-date fire maintenance records
- Evidence accepted includes:
- Electronic log books
- On-line log books
- Hand written log books (copy)
- Business continuity plans
- Businesssmart on-line continuity tool plus evidence that remedial
action has been implemented
- ISO17799 evidence
- BS 7799 evidence
- Business Continuity consultants report together with evidence
that remedial action has been implemented
- Demonstrating robust security measures (This evidence will centre
on efforts made to combat arson in the workplace). Evidence may include:
- Evidence from FRA regarding arson prevention
- Evidence of certification of approved intruder alarm systems
- Evidence of internal and/or external CCTV
- Details of procedures to minimise unauthorised access
- Evidence of procedures that determine control of combustible
/ flammable materials
- Demonstrating that their suppliers and distributors have suitable
fire safety arrangements in place
- Statement of intent from two references. This must include
confirmation of an FRA, staff fire training, up to date fire drills
and up to date maintenance of fire safety systems
(3) Community safety evidence
Written evidence of one of the following.
- Demonstrating that the organisation promotes home fire safety to
its staff
- Allowing staff to be part-time firefighters available to their
local fire service whilst at work
- Working in partnership with a local fire station or fire service
to assist them in helping vulnerable persons/groups or supporting/participating
in community fire safety initiatives
- Similar activity/activities that are of equal merit that promote
fire safety in the workplace, home or community
Submitting or approval of evidence
Evidence can be sent as hard copy to Group Manager Phil Johnson at
Fire Service Safety Partnership, Braintree Fire Station, Railway Street,
Braintree, Essex CM7 3JD. Postal submissions should be sent by recorded
delivery. Your postal submission must include a cover sheet detailing
the documents sent to us.

After verification any written evidence sent to us will be returned
by recorded delivery. A copy of your cover sheet will be returned to
